Upgrading to central air conditioning

I was never overly interested in central air conditioning for my home.

  • Living in the northeastern part of the country, our summer weather doesn’t last long.

We are lucky to get three months of warm temperatures. However, there are those years when the heat and humidity is brutal. An overheated and sticky home makes it difficult to be productive or sleep. For several years, my family managed with window air conditioners in the bedroom. I wasn’t totally happy with this solution. The cooling units obstructed the view from the windows. They created a bit of a safety risk because of the opened windows. It was a nuisance carrying them up and down the attic stairs for storage over the winter and installation at the beginning of summer. With only specific rooms feeling cool and comfortable, family time was minimal. However, it wasn’t until my daughter was diagnosed with severe asthma that I decided to invest into a central cooling system. It became especially important to create a cleaner, healthier living environment. We needed to keep the window closed against pollen, exhaust fumes and other allergens. A cooler temperature was essential to preventing mold and mildew growth. The installation of a whole-home air conditioner improved my daughter’s quality of life. I was not expecting how much my entire family would enjoy this upgrade. We run the AC even when the outside temperature isn’t overly hot or humid. Running the fan helps to circulate the air and keep a fresher and more comfortable living space. I now wonder how we got by so long without it.
