Left windows open and rain came in

I’ve been extremely stressed lately, and a large portion of it is due to financial problems.

My husband and I recently moved to a brand new state, and our living expenses have increased dramatically.

He is working at three different institutions, but all of them have been difficult to secure paychecks from. Because he keeps experiencing payment delays, I have been footing the bill for every single expense since we moved, and I’m getting very worried. I’ve wanted to find ways to cut down on our monthly expenses, and decided that we were using our HVAC unit far too much. Our energy bill has been through the roof, and I believe we can adjust our heating and cooling unit usage in order to reduce our electricity bills for the time being. As such, I started adjusting the thermostat to a much higher degree than before, and letting nature decide our living conditions for the day. It’s often too hot and humid for our personal comfort, but we’re saving a ton of money by leaving our air conditioner off. I’ve been trying to open the windows before work every morning, and hoping that we’ll catch a breeze to cool down the indoor air. This plan has backfired a few times, though, because it rains without warning when the humidity is too great. There have been many afternoons that the natural ventilation has lead to rain seeping in through our open windows. So far, I may have caused more expenses in water damage than we’ve saved by turning off our AC.
